A Level Results Day 2021

Dear Parent/Carer

As this academic year draws to a close it is important to reflect on what we have experienced but also to look to the future. With this in mind I am writing to you to outline some important pieces of information to help you support your child during the summer Results Day and beyond.

Results Day this year is scheduled for Tuesday 10th August and the School building will be open from 8.30am for students to collect their results. We would ask that all students and parents plannning to attend take a lateral flow test prior to arrival at school.

In the event of a student achieving better grades than they expected and actually exceeding their firm choice university offer, students may wish to apply to somewhere with a higher grade requirement through UCAS adjustment. Adjustment is available from A level Results Day (10th August), until 18th August. It’s entirely optional, and a lot of competitive courses will be full – but other applicants might have missed their conditions or swapped a course too. This isn’t something we necessarily encourage as it can be quite a stressful process on Results Day. More information about adjustjment can be found here:

https://www.ucas.com/ucas/undergraduate/apply-and-track/results/ucas-adjustment-if-youve-done-better-expected

If however a student does not achieve the grades they needed for either their firm or their insurance offer then students would be entered into clearing. Clearing is where universities will advertise their vacancies for courses onto which students can enrol. More information about the clearing process can be found here:

Members of the Sixth Form team will be on hand during the day to support students once they have collected their results and a representative from the National Apprenticeship Service will also be available to support students who change their mind about going to university or didn’t apply in the first place.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for all the support you have shown Rainford High School and Sixth Form during your child’s time here. While the end to their journey is not what we anticipated or would have liked for them, everyone at Rainford wishes them the best in their future.

I wish you and your family an enjoyable and safe summer.

Yours sincerely,

Grant Fletcher

Director of Sixth Form
