Literacy

Introduction

“Literacy is a key lever of change and a practical tool of empowerment on each of the three main pillars of sustainable development: economic development, social development and environmental protection.”  Former UN Secretary-General, Kofi Annan.
The four strands through which we will improve whole-school literacy at Rainford are:
·         Extended writing.
·         Reading.
·         Communication (speaking & listening).
·         Raising the profile of literacy.
Activities to improve pupils’ literacy will be implicitly taught in weekly form-time activities and through all Curriculum Areas.  Pupils’ work in all lessons will be marked for literacy, using the whole-school literacy marking codes shown in the literacy guide for pupils and parents below.
