Love Food, Hate Waste…Take Action!

Rainford Summer Festival presents inspirational Can Cook Pop Up Studio in association with North West Waste Consultants.

‘North West Waste Consultants’ have generously agreed to partner Rainford Summer Festival 2014. The Rainford based company are supporting and promoting the national campaign ‘Love Food Hate Waste’. Through this kind sponsorship, Rainford Summer Festival is proud to present the popular ‘Can Cook Pop Up Studio’ from Liverpool for the event on Saturday 12th July from 11am to 7pm.

Can Cook’s inspirational Chefs will teach families or individuals valuable cookery skills, how to cook healthy meals from scratch and give advice on how to reduce the amount of food you throw away. Thirty minute sessions will run regularly throughout Festival day and will host ten cookery stations at each session. A gallery space will also enable people to watch and learn from each demonstration. At the end, participants get to take their meal away along with a recipe card to try at home. On the day there will be lots of advice, tips and recipes to help you to make the most of your food. Advance Tickets for the sessions go on sale soon...

Rebecca Carpenter from Can Cook Studio said “We are really happy to be a part of the Rainford Summer Festival this year – and can’t wait to get everyone cooking along with our talented Chefs. This year our training focus has been on reducing Food Waste and creating delicious meals on a budget – something all individuals and families can benefit from. Our Chefs have come up with some really inventive dishes that taste great and are really easy to make and we can’t wait to share them with visitors to the Festival. ”

Love Food Hate Waste campaign aims to raise awareness of the need to reduce food waste and help us take action. It shows that by doing some easy practical everyday things in the home we can all waste less food, which will ultimately benefit our purses and the environment too. By helping people to save money and avoid food waste, it’s a win-win situation for everyone!

Warren Aspinall, Director of North West Waste Consultants said “We are delighted to be a part of such a great event and we are looking forward to working with Rainford High School to ensure that the festival is a massive success. It is a brilliant opportunity to join in with the Love Food, Hate Waste campaign by raising awareness of the need to reduce food waste. The amount of food that is thrown away in the UK on a daily basis amounts to thousands of tonnes and is a huge cost to households and businesses alike. By making people aware of how much they can save through campaigns such as Love Food, Hate Waste it can only be good for our pockets and the environment. We look forward to seeing you on the 12th July for a fantastic day out for all the family!”

Principal Ian Young said “It’s great to have local support for the event again this year. This campaign is about making a difference at home by looking after the environment but also about eating a healthier diet. The opportunity to learn tricks and tips from professional chefs that we can use at home should make for a great part of the day.”

Last year Rainford Summer Festival which is hosted on the school site, enjoyed unprecedented success with crowds of 3,000 people enjoying fun in the sun! Building on this success, visitors will again be treated to a wide range of attractions including performances from live bands, an international food court, artisan market, exciting entertainment and a variety of games, activities, attractions and stalls for all the family! Bring your family and friends and join us again for more Festival fun!
