Spanish Spelling Bee

On Friday 14th July, there was a real hive of activity and a buzz about the MFL department as our fabulous Year 7 and 8 Spanish students took part in a Spanish Spelling Bee and the Spanish Spelling Bee Bake off.

For the past 3 weeks, all Year 7 and 8 pupils had been busily practising spelling 50 key Spanish words in preparation for the final. Finalists were required to translate as many words as possible from English into Spanish then spell the word using the Spanish alphabet within a time limit of one minute.

The final was unBEElievably close, with incredibly impressive performances from all students. Each finalist received a Spelling Bee medal and our champion spellers,

Ben Lomas and Ellie Blackhurst from Year 7 and Olivia Spencer from Year 8, won a coveted Spelling Bee trophy.

We were overwhelmed with the quality of entries for the Bake off competition – the MFL staff tasted all the cakes and they were all absolutely delicious.  After a lot of deliberation the following students were declared Star Bakers: Molly Pimlott, Lloyd Oliver and Grace Gibson.  Each student received a cake tin full of goodies!!!   We are also pleased to say that students donated lots of money to the Year 7 charity Run with George in exchange for a slice of the heavenly cakes on offer!!
