This year’s Year 10 GCSE Drama students delivered a captivating and emotionally resonant performance of Things I Know to Be True by Andrew Bovell. The play, which explores the complexities of family dynamics and personal identity, was brought to life by the students with impressive skill, maturity, and depth.
From the moment the curtains opened, the audience was immediately drawn into the world of the Price family. Each student skillfully portrayed their character’s journey, capturing the emotions of each scene. What was clear from the students was their understanding of the characters and the powerful emotions that they experience during the scenes. The portrayal of the mother, Fran throughout was particularly powerful, as the different actors conveyed both the strength and vulnerability of a woman navigating the changing roles within her family.
During lessons the students worked seamlessly together to create a compelling ensemble performance. Students have directed their own scenes and worked together exceptionally well, really capturing the spirit of our school ethos.
The chemistry between the family members was palpable, with each student contributing to a strong, cohesive dynamic that made the family’s emotional journey feel real and relatable. The play’s dialogue, often filled with moments of tension and reconciliation, was delivered with remarkable clarity and emotion.
Overall, the Year 10 GCSE Drama students’ performance of Things I Know to Be True was a triumph, showcasing their talent, hard work, and understanding of the complex emotional terrain explored in the play. The showcase not only highlighted the students’ acting abilities but also their skill in collaborative storytelling. The students should be incredibly proud of their achievement especially as this at the beginning of their GCSE Drama journey. We look forward to seeing what these talented students will bring to the stage in the future
