Student Bursaries

Overview

We would like to make you aware of the 16–19 Bursary Fund, which is funded by the Department for Education (DfE) and is available to support eligible students in our Sixth Form.

The 16–19 Bursary Fund provides financial support to help students overcome the specific financial barriers to participation they face so they can remain in education. The fund is intended to ensure that students from low‑income households or vulnerable backgrounds are not prevented from continuing their studies due to financial difficulty.

What the bursary can help with

In line with DfE guidance, bursary funding is intended to help eligible students with essential costs of participating in education, such as:

Travel to and from school or college
Essential books, equipment, or resources
Specialist clothing required for a student’s study programme

These are costs that a student would otherwise need to pay to participate in their course. The bursary is not intended to provide learning support services, fund non‑essential extracurricular activities, or provide general living costs.

All applications are treated confidentially, and bursary funding is prioritised for those who need it most.

How to apply

Further information about eligibility and the application process is available from Mr Beetles (Post-16 Learning Leader). Completed application forms, together with the required evidence, should be submitted by Friday 25th September 2026.

We strongly encourage parents and carers to apply if they believe their child may be eligible, as the bursary can make a significant contribution towards the costs of post‑16 education.

If you have any questions or would like support with the application process, please contact Mr Beetles ([email protected]) or Mr Pendlebury ([email protected]).
