Letter Regarding Changes to January Opening

Dear Parent /Carer

Thank you for your ongoing support and patience. I thought I had written my final communication of 2020 and we could all have a peaceful and restful Christmas looking forward to a better 2021.

Unfortunately I have been informed yesterday afternoon and evening that in order to introduce testing of staff and students in secondary schools there will be a staggered start to the January term.

This means school will reopen as planned on the 5th January but will only be open to Y11 and Y13 as well as identified groups of learners from the guidance. This means that Years 7, 8, 9, 10 and 12 will all receive remote learning for four days and then return to school on the 11th January.

The school will make a decision regarding our involvement in non symptomatic testing based on the best advice available and in the best interests of the school community. Students will receive remote learning for all lessons with 50% of lesson time being via google classroom live lessons and the other 50% will be set tasks for independent learning during the period of the 5th January until Friday 8th Friday.

If anyone has any concerns regarding remote learning during this period please could you contact the school and we will try and address any issues and concerns.

This Government announcement has been made right at the end of the term and leaves little flexibility in approach or detail about what the process will look like. As from the beginning of the pandemic we will do our best to keep you informed and educate our young people and keep our community safe.

I appreciate that this will cause significant inconvenience once again to parents and students. We hope this is minimal and we will continue to do everything we can to ensure our young people have the best experience we can provide.

I will continue to keep you updated with any further news of adjustments or changes to the new term.

Once again I wish you all a peaceful and happy festive period.

Yours sincerely

Mr Ian Young

Principal
