Letter to Parents 13/09

Dear Parents/ Carers,

We are delighted to have welcomed your children back to school over the last week. It has been both exciting and challenging to reopen in a more normal fashion. We have tested students and found 4 positive cases but with the new government guidance there is no need for close contacts to isolate. We would surge students to wash or sanitise hands regularly, consider wearing face masks in school corridors and practice good respiratory hygiene.

Students and staff have returned in a positive manner and the school year has started in a very positive fashion. We are still running google classroom in the back ground so any student absent or wanting to revisit lessons is able to at any point through out this academic year.

The school’s focus on reading continues with Year 7 reading the Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night and the rest of the school reading the Hate U Give. I would ask that all parents support us by asking questions about the books or reading them as we do in school. Both books are deliberately thought provoking to draw our young people into thinking about some of the more challenging issues we are presented with in society.

We are delighted to be running Welcome Evening Events for all year groups from Y7 to Y13. I would suggest parents attend as there is lots of new information to share with a strong focus on key information about the year and how you can support the school in helping your child make great progress over the next few months.

We are also looking for parents who are prepared to support our Personal Development and Careers information  advice and guidance events by asking for any parents who have significant life experience, interesting careers or business experience who would be prepared to speak or give a presentation to a small or large group of students to get in touch so we can utilise the expertise on our doorstep.

We also have a vacancy on the Trust board for a parent or local person who has an interest in supporting the governance of the school and the academy trust. Ideally some one with educational or financial experience would add value to the trust in developing the high quality governance structures further to ensure the trust continues to challenge itself to provide the best education possible. If you are interested in hearing more about this opportunity please email my PA at [email protected] and we will get back in touch to discuss the role further.

Over the year we will be in regular touch to update you with information and news about how the year is progressing.

Thank you for your ongoing support.

Kind regards

Ian Young
Principal
