Michael McLachlan MSc(Educational Management), BEd, TCert.
Michael recently retired as the owner and director of Beacon Education Consultants Ltd.
His educational career since 1972 includes working in primary and secondary secondary sectors in five different LEAs as teacher, Head of Mathematics, LEA Mathematics Advisory Teacher, LEA Mathematics, Assessment and School Leadership Advisor and LEA Senior Inspector for Secondary Schools, Adult Education and Youth Services.
At the establishment of OFSTED he qualified as a Registered Inspector and later an Additional Inspector leading and supporting on inspections in primary and secondary schools across the country.
He has been a School Improvement Partner and National Challenge Adviser and involved in Mathematics Education at a national level during the development of the National Curriculum and as a member of the executive of the National Association of Mathematics Advisers and Inspectors. He has published mathematical support materials and developed LEA handbooks on School Self Evaluation and Staff Development.
As an Independent Consultant since 2003 he has provided training to inspectors, governors, headteachers, middle leaders and teachers in primary and secondary schools.
His particular areas of expertise include school inspection and self evaluation, leadership and management, teaching and learning, assessment and interpreting performance data and mathematics education.
