In the last week of the Summer term, over 300 Year 10 and Year 12 students were pioneers of an innovative Virtual Work Experience Programme designed and facilitated by ‘Changing Education’ (www.changingeducation.co.uk). This was aimed at combatting current CV-19 restrictions affecting live work placements and providing students with the opportunity to engage with a variety of industries and employers and learn more about the world of work.
The programme was completed either via the Connect app and / or the Changing Education website platform. Activities included top tips for job interviews and sector spotlight sessions from a wide range of national and international employers including:
Hutch Games – creative design, software development
Kabo – creative web design
NHS – A Day in the Life of a GP
Balfour Beatty – Construction Management & Civil Engineering
Barclaycard – Digital Banking & Marketing
ESPN – Sports broadcasting and Sports Journalism
UCFB – University Centre of Football Business
EnvisionPharma – pharmaceuticals
Foxwhylie – Events Management
DPS USA – Engineering
Silverstone Fleet Management – Contract Hire / Logistics
BBC North West Tonight – Media & Communications
Atkins Global – Engineering / Rail Engineering
Becky McDonald-Lofts – Marine Conservation / Ecology
Clyde and Co – Global Legal Services
Freelancer magazine – Journalism
The programme also required students to complete an independent Project Brief to help them develop future employability skills such as researching, designing, presenting, time-keeping, communication, initiative and resilience.
Students will receive certification for their efforts and now have experience that they will find invaluable when making future course and career applications. Well done to all those who engaged fully in the programme; especially within the tropical temperatures!
